Close encounters of the furry kind

On the way home from running some errands halloween day I stopped by the supermarket to quick pick up a couple things. I spotted a young lady in there wearing a costume head. It was clearly home made, but a wee bit too elaborate for something thrown together for halloween. Hmmmm, I thought.....

I went up to her and said "Very nice head, looks like something I'd see at Anthrocon.".
My use of the "A" word was intentional. If she was a non-fur she's likely never heard of Anthrocon. She'll likely say thank you and that would be the end of it. If she were a fur I'd likely get a reaction.

Yup, I got a reaction. We had a very nice chat. Turns out she is a fur and works in the store.

Look around you. You never know who else may be hiding the animal within.

Happy returns

I wasn't up to going into details at the time, but my last post had to do with my cat.

Early Saturday morning he got out. He is an indoor cat and has never been outside in the almost 2 years I've had him. At that point he vanished. I had no clue as to what direction or how far he had gone. After 2 days and no sign I was getting pretty depressed.

This is where things get a bit weird. Pay attention cloewen, you may find this interesting.
Saturday morning when I started looking for Kenya (my cat) I came across a grey cat in the woods by my neighbor's. He looked at me and ran off. Repeated searches through the day brought no success in finding Kenya, but I saw the grey cat every time I went out; into differing directions. Saturday evening it started to rain. I came in leaving the porch door open. I happened to notice the grey cat now huddled under my heating oil tank.
Sunday, more searching, still no Kenya. It rained most of the day. Grey cat stayed under the oil tank.
This morning a quick search. Nothing. Grey cat was looking at me, still under the tank. I told it to tell Kenya I wanted him to come home and left for work. I came home after work, another search, nothing. I pruned some trees in the yard, then thought to check on the grey cat. He had moved, but was now there in body only. He had passed on sometime through the day.
I took care of the grey cat's remains, thinking to myself "Poor thing, you should have been loved, not wind up like this". While walking back to my house from taking care of the grey cat who do I see looking out at me from under my own house but Kenya?!?

It took some coaxing to get him out but he is now back inside where belongs.
Praise God for a positive answer to prayer.

Back home, safe & sound (well, sound by my standards) from my labor day weekend dive trip.

Due to my accident back in early May this was my first dive outing of the year. It felt good to gear up and get back in the water.

Yeah, it was a little bittersweet at times, but overall a good time.

Special thanks to the furry divers who showed up who helped to make the weekend special.

One small step, one big memory

Forty years ago right now I was at my grandparents house in Delray Beach Florida.
It's rare that one is truly aware that they are witnessing history, especially at age 10.
But earlier in the day as I stood on the bank of the Indian River in Titusville and watched and felt, in person, that rocket blast off I knew this was something historical.
Having been there to witness it in person burned it deep into my memory. I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Arrived home from AC about 8:00 PM EDST.
For reasons I'd rather not go into, it was an extremely nerve wracking drive home.
Basically my AC consisted of 2 difficult difficult journeys with 4 days of sheer bliss in between. Yes, we all know there are some "unusual" folks at AC but for the most part when I am there I feel I am amongst my own kind. That is such a wonderful feeling.

Hopefully more of a con report will follow, but for now....... sleep.

At Anthrocon - part 1

Arrived at Anthrocon at about 5:30 this afternoon.
The drive was long and for reasons I won't go into, intensely nerve rattling. My nerves were completely frazzled by time I got here.

I checked in, unloaded the car and as I was rather hungry went to Steel City Diner for dinner. I figured some food would do me good. I then came back to my room and crashed for a while.

Later I got up and wandered around for a bit, still trying to calm my nerves. There's already folks out and about in fursuit and watching them gave me the urge. A little unsure as I still wasn't feeling right I suited up and joined in. It's amazing. Maybe 45 minutes to an hour wandering around in suit. After finishing up, I felt so much better. Amazing what some quality tiger time will do.

It's weird

I find myself weeping tonight, the emotions coming back, re-reading a post from some 4 years ago.

It's been a really rough 6 to 8 months here. Much of which I haven't posted about. (I tend to be a rather private type) And I no longer have as many close friends to talk to as I once may have.

Perhaps this tiger just needs a good, private cry. I dunno.

Broken hand update

Hard to believe it's been 6 weeks already since my hand was broken.

The cast was removed today. It feels good to have that thing off.

My hand is still very swollen. I can barely bend it at the wrist and I can't close the hand. If I try to make a fist the fingers get maybe a third of the way there then lock up.

I'm not very pleased with the doctor I've been seeing. I hope there's not more damage that hasn't been discovered yet.

Scams

I dislike scams.
I really dislike friends being sucked into scams.
I REALLY dislike friends attempting to suck me into said scam, especially with messages that are high on hype and short on detail.
If you are a friend you will tell me everything up front and not use cryptic messages that have MLM just oozing from every missing fact.

Listen to it fizz

I have never cared for plastic 16 ounce soda bottles.(Especially Coca Cola) I've always found them to be unstable and fall over easily.

I now despise the things, as they are nigh impossible to open with only one working hand. I've been able to open most bottles and jars by clamping them between my right arm and body and removing the lid with my left hand. This method doesn't work with soda bottles as the plastic is so flimsy the bottle immediately crushes once the pressure is released and before the lid breaks free from its ring. This results in copious amounts of sticky soda being sprayed about the area as well as one very annoyed and still thirsty tiger.

Casting call

I am now in a cast from just below the elbow to the tips of my fingers.
I'll likely have it on for 3 - 5 weeks.
My motorcycle and dive gear are calling to me. Be patient my loves, be patient.
